Diesel leak

I have a completely restored Ferguson TEF20. However, there appears to be a diesel leak at the bottom of the diesel pump. After driving and parking the tractor, a certain quantity of diesel leaks out. A few days later, after evaporation, the size of the pool of diesel diminishes significantly, leaving only a tiny puddle the size of a coin. Is this a common problem? What is wrong with the pump and how can it be fixed?

Thanks,
Robert Kierans

Which pump do you mean,...the priming pump or the injection pump? if it is the injection pump it isn't usual but try two things, have you drained off the cam box recently,(the tap on the side of the pump facing you at the bottom) don't forget to fill with engine oil if you do. Check the gasket on the cover plate at the back of the pump nearest the engine block, they leak occasionally. If it is the priming pump it could be the diaphragm, if so get a repair kit

The diesel injection pump is leaking. It appears to be from the bottom, but I'll look around the plate and gasket at the back. Perhaps it is coming from there and leaking down.

Thanks,
Robert

As long as it isn't one of the very early ones, you can take the pump off without too much trouble. Just scribe a line across the mounting flange so you can put the timing back to where it is now and you can take the pump off easily and it will engage the drive itself when you put it back on again. Then just put the pump back so the scribe line is straight across the mounting flange and that should be it. The early ones were on a master spline.
