I had to replace the main drive assembly in my '56 F-40. Any tricks as to how to align the PTO gears on the bottom shaft for reassembly? I can't seam to get the pto shaft (lower) in far enough to put the bearing and front plate back on.
Thanks,
MisMaxed

I assume you have the old style pto shaft that pull out the front. if I remember right that is what the F40 had. If I am right on that. You may have a pump locating pin broke or worn letting the pump sag enough that the coupler on the pump shaft is lining up with the pto shaft. You can sometimes put the pto in engine speed and have someone turn the pto shaft while you hold in on the pto shaft in the front and the pump will move around and line up. If not you will have to remove one of the access plates and reach in and lift up on the pump while some pushes in the front shaft. I have had that problem before. If I can be of further help Email me
