Hello fellow tractor lovers;

I am about to purchase a model 30. The owner says its a 1952. It has a continental engine 21-29A. The number on what looks like an ID plate on the dash is 6003T2255. It has a 3 pt hitch with a brush hog. Also throwing in a rake with the deal. Its a bit rusty but runs like a clock. No lights and the alternator does not charge. He is asking $1500. Is this a fair price?

Thanks for all the come backs. I bought the machine. Love it. Can't wait to work on it. Adding to my current tractor collection. 1962 Oliver 770 and 1970 MF54 backhoe.

Jerry/MT is right, check the oil and water for any convergence of the two. Check the lift with a heavy implement attached. Lift problems can be very costly. I have the same tractor and it is tough as nails. Very satisfied. Not a bad price "at all".

A '52 To-30 would have a serial number between TO 72680 and TO 108644 and that number would be stamped on a plate just above the steering wheel on the dash. The engine would be a Continental Z129 and that would be identified by a data plate on the left hand side of the block near the distributor. This engine has an external oil filter on the right hand side toward the back of the block.
The Continental engine were prone to cracking the blocks if overheated. Check the oil for coolant and check the coolant for oil. (A little water condensation on the oil fill cap is normal.)If you find any, ask to do a compression check, which will give you some idea whether you have a leaking head gasket, bad valves and worn rings. Pull the plugs and make sure they aren't wet with oil. How's the clutch and the brakes? (Tractor brakes are not like car brakes but they shouldn't pull or squeal/screech.)

If this tractor runs as good as you say, the three point works fine with a bunch of weight on it, the pto is OK and it's only hard on the eyes, $1500 asking doesn't sound too bad, in my opinion. The hog, if it's any good, is a bonus.

the # on the engine should be Z 129,you said Alternator ,has it been converted to 12 volt , or is it 6volt generator the way it came originally,anyway if it starts and runs with little or no smoke and if the hydraulics work ,the price is right ,i have a 1952 TO 30 and love it Welcome to the family
