Has anyone made an engine swap out and did not go back to the original TO-20 engine?

A TO-30 engine should bolt right up. A TO-35 engine might, don't know. If your looking for extra horsies, it may not be worth it, your clutch, tranny, axle was built for ~ 20-24 HP. I would think they would become the weak link if you add too much horsepower.
I rebuilt my TO-20 last Winter, used the oversized sleeves/pistons that everyone sells. I was real impressed with the power boost - 'coarse my worn out engine had poor output before the rebuild. My biggest complaint now is not enough weight, loose traction, even with loaded tires.

I suppose you could put a Z129 into the TO-20 with a minimum of effort, but why not stick with the original?

Looking at the future. More power if I stay with the TO-20.

my dad bought one that had a hercules flat head engine on it. i think it came out of a forklift of some kind at least thats what napa told us when we tried to match up the points/condenser. who ever did this change over had to go to a great depth of modifying different things to make everything work. for instance the distributor came straight up out of the top of the head so therefore they blanked off half the gas tank and completely did away with the rest of it so the distributor cap had a place to set. there was also an adapter plate between the engine and the bell housing. but besides all this stuff going on it really turned out good it looked goog and everything worked good.
