I just bought a Ferguson tea 20, one of many I have purchased over the years. This is the first one I have owned with a completely aluminum hood. The hood still looks like brand new!! I was just wondering how rare of an item this is. thank you Dave

It will be quite rare now I suspect. The aluminium hoods were not fitted for a long period and most of them were damaged quite easily because they are not as strong as the all steel type. I would like to know the serial number of your tractor then we can have some idea of when they were fitted from and to, as no records seem to exist any longer.

John, The serial number tag is missing from the dash, that is why I was intrigued with the rarity of this tractor. It seems to be in overall excellent shape , hardly any wear on steering linkage. I see no welds besides on lift arm ends. paint leaves something to be desired, runs great with 60 PSI oil pressure!! Any help greatly appreciated, Dave

It sounds like its very good order..60psi is good and what you would expect from a new tractor. If you look on the centre axle housing, just forward of the left-hand round inspection cover you may see some numbers cast in the housing. This is the date the housings were made and they were usually used within about four weeks of that date.If you cant work it out send me the numbers to fergusontractors at hotmail dot com

John John Good info on the casting date I'm still trying to determine my tea's year. I think you posted me once stating it's a '52..... ...I can't figure why the red and gray paint, when I had the hood sandblasted (outside of the body filler that I didn't know was there) I seen the gray / blueish paint/could be primer.... another posting read some M.F. dealers painted them I think I'll just paint it red/gray and get it over with

cheers Bill

A lot of tractor were painted into red and grey once the Massey-Ferguson colours changed to that, I suppose they thought the neighbours would think they had a new tractor. Personally I like the old tractors in their proper colours of plain grey, there is just something about it. There were some TE tractors painted Red and grey from the French factory and they painted them that colour after the FE35 and TO35 were introduced and it was just a local thing in France, the TE was kept on production there for a while after it ceased in UK. The grey/blue primer was not used by the factory that was a olive/greenish colour, the castings were painted with a redish/orange primer/sealer so the primer on yours was probably used at the time they repaired the hood and used all that filler on it.
