After some VERY heavy pulling, my TO-20 is now binding up when I let out the clutch. This happens even when out of gear. Feals like it turns over about 180 deg., and then stalls engine due to some sort of jam up. Would greatly appreciate any help, as winter is coming and much wood to haul for fire place!!! THANX SO MUCH!!

my 8n did the same thing and I decided to put it in garage to work on it. While pulling it up on rollback its rear wheels were skidding on ground. When rear tires hit metal deck something broke loose and it rolled up on truck bed. I should have fixed it in field, because It broke the pilot shaft and a few other parts in the trans when it broke loose.

When the engine stalls, will it start up again straight away or do you have to wait a while before it restarts.? Does the engine stall even if you have your clutch pedal pressed right down?

As Jim W said, it sounds like something has jumped out of where it oughta be. Not unusual with these gearboxes once they get a bit of wear. Once you have the 'lid' off (below the gear lever) it should be easy enough to see if all the rails are in the 'neutral' position - turn it over using the starting handle, NOT the starter for safety's sake.

Thinking about it, the last time that happened to me all I took off was the gear lever itself, and I could then get a large screwdriver in to reset the selector rails before reinstalling the gear lever. Be careful doing this so you don't accidentally operate the starter while you are standing in front of the back wheels! Disconnecting the battery would be good.

Remember that the 'operation' of the shifter rails will be 'opposite' to what you expect. So when you move the lever forwards rail movement will be towards the rear of the tractor.

It will make sense when you look at it.

Good luck.

I would take the cover off the top of the transmission and take a look. Sounds like the clutch itself is working.
Jim
