2085 pops back through carb ?

This tractor has always poped and cracked back through the carb .It never backfires I have changed points and coil still the same ,valves are new . Was wondering about the distributer The centrifical advance return springs are weak would this thro off the ignition timing and cause the poping I discribed

Thanks Jerry and John there is two good things to start with .That top bushing you said John does have some play on it .And while I am there I will check the timing ,Points gap maxed at TDC or is it 1 degre BTDC ?

Check your timing to make sure that the timing is not overly advanced. It can cause the spark to fire before the intake valve is closed.

Yes it could do, does it still have the original distributor on it? Has the distributor got any wear in the top bearing so that the shaft can move from side to side, no matter how slight, if it has, it will be altering the contact gap all the time and that could be causing the misfire. Give me the engine number and distributor number and I can give you the correct timing of that particular engine, there have been several changes to the timing over the years Mail me at fergusontractors at hotmail dot com.
