Can I paint my engine block with regular Tremclad (Rustoleum) rust paint? High temp Tremclad doesn't come in grey.

What about the rubber hoses - did you guys paint them or not?

This is not a true restoration but I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Just painted my TO-20. Call me lazy, but I painted my rubber hoses. I did remove the fan belt, gas tank, and coil before painting, and tied the ignition wires out of the way so I had good access to the block.
I used rustoleum primer, then painted with regular store bought enamel, with a hardner. Used that for everything. I did paint the exhaust manifold with hi-temp paint first though. The enamel has pretty much burned off the exhaust manifold, leaving the hi-temp paint. The enamel paint, and primer seems to handle the temperature of the block and head just fine. So, I think you should be fine. If I did this right, there should be a link here to check out my tractor picture.

Thanks George. I can't tell from the photo - did you paint your gas tank too?

Yes painted gas tank. Took it off so I could do a good job. Used hardener in the acrylic paint. Have splashed gas on it a couple times already... the paint stands-up to the gas just fine.

Hi Al,
I bought a TEA 20 last Fall in good working order and used it to skid logs and plough. I am currently sprucing it up and this engine block paint issue is relevant to me. What I'm wondering is this: is Tremclad the same as this "Rustoleum" I hear about? I'd like to use a color somewhat close to original and I understand that Rusoleum #975 is a close match. Does Crapppy Tire carry it? P.S. I used to live in BC. Hope the weather's fine!
