Broken TO30 starter

The "nose" (the part that holds the bearing at the drive-gear end) of the starter on my TO30 broke as in busted completely apart. I tried JB Weld and it lasted a short time. A local generator shop says the part can be brazed, but usually not successfully. I have seen the complete starters for $200 - 300, but all I need is the nose piece. I've tried the local tractor supply houses, but no luck. Is there a source for that piece by itself? Thanks.

Try a tractor salvage yard. Do a web search and find one in your area.

Just as a side note: On my To-35 (special) a few years ago I broke two of the starter housings before finding out that my starter pinion shaft return spring had broke, allowing gear to "slam" into housing, and breaking it in a short time. I found the items(used) from a tractor repair guy,but he did say:they were "getting hard to find" Gregg

Had my starter nose cone welded the first time it broke. Later it broke again. This time I found a nose cone at a tractor repair shop. Then I heard that if timming is not right that will cause the nose cone to break. Called in my professional tractor friend and set timming by the book. I&T manual. Also shimmed the starter out from the flywheel housing. Had no problems after that.
