Hi All

Can anyone tell me what the leaver on the bottom right of the dash board is used for. The one on the left cuts out the engine but the one on the right only slows it down there a rod connected to the back of it which goes into the rocker box any help please

Sounds like the choke. Pull it full out when your'e starting the tractor cold (ambient air temp) it will probably start better. Good luck, have fun!!

I don't know what model you are talking about but on my TO-30 with the Continental Z129 engine, the only lever on the right of my dash is the choke. Underneath the dash is the "hand thottle" connection to the governor.

Hi

Thanks for that. only ever started it in the summer never had to use the choke - as long as the battery is fully charged starts in a couple of turns. the tractor i have is a tef diesel cir. 1950. the only things left on the dash are steering wheel, oil gauge, pull stop and choke. the person who had the tractor before me tried to strip off what he felt were unnecessary parts i.e drawbar, air filter, badges, original seat, all the electric wiring except for the starter switch. he only ever used the front loader for making up the road.

If it's a diesel the right lever should be the fuel cutoff.

The LEVER you refer to...on a TEF is a decompressor, when operated (press down) it lifts the valves slightly and relieves the cylinder compression so you can get the engine spinning over quickly and it will help it to start in very cold weather....but normally all you need to do is use the excess fuel button on the fuel pump or if its too cold for that alone, use the heater and the Ki-gas pump on the dash as well.

John,
I knew you'd have the right answer. Don't owners in the USA or anywhere else use the decompressor any more? It's worked many times especially when the battery has been a bit dodgy.

HI DP, There are few if any TEF tractors in US they like their gasoline engines, well so do we but they are just too costly for us to run as you know. I worked on these tractors when they were in production (now thats a long time ago) as a field service engineer and I had to instruct the operators how to use them. You will find that lots of operators now just dont know what these things are for or how to operate the hydraulics correctly especially on the later types FE/MF35 as I said earlier its all so long ago now, so with most, its guesswork. I actually did an instruction sheet for those hydraulics, just so it would be in print for these guys, but thats another story.

Hi All

Thanks all for your suggestions. I think it a decompresser cannot use ki-gas because previous owner had taken it off and sold it i guess.
