Thanks for the info phil, the reason I have it all apart is that the top cover gasket had blow by where the oil enters form the pump. I thought that the bolts for the top cover might have been a bit tighter than 38-45ftlbs. I have now replaced the gasket, but are tempted to do the top cover bolts up a bit tighter in the hope that this new gasket will not blow like it's predecessor! Are the torques you quoted from the manual and what do you recon with regard to tightenning them a little more?
Any other input more than welcome, Cheers, Dave

Dave, the torque specs came out of the overhaul manual for a TO20/30.

Its more likely to blow if you tighten it beyond what the specification is...They made an awful lot of tractors and they would all be torqued to that spec...so really I dont think there is any need to vary it do you? They weren't prone to blowing the gasket even the ones that worked very hard with a loader.

I took your advise and didn't overtighten, so far so good, no leaks at the mo!
Cheers,
Dave

Good...glad you did that, providing the metal surface is in good condition (no pit marks or grooves)and the face is flat.you should have no problems.
