I recently purchased a 1950 model TO-20 from the local Massey-Ferguson dealer. This dealer allegedly sold the tractor new, and I allegedly bought it after the original owner's heirs traded it in on a small four wheel drive tractor. Seems to be a fairly solid old tractor, but a couple of things stump me. The I&T manual says that the tractor has a positive ground, 6-volt electrical system. The battery in mine is hooked up negative ground. When you hit the starter, the gauge shows charge, and when the tractor is running, the gauge shows neither charge nor discharge. The battery has not gone down yet, however. I have read differing views on oil for this tractor, and was advised by the dealer that Shell Rotella 15W40 has been recommended by them and used in this tractor since being overhauled in 1995. I have performed a thorough tune-up on this "ready to go" tractor....plugs, points, condenser, cap, rotor, wires, valve adjustment and boiled out the tank and rebuilt the carb. Runs like a watch. Barely ran when I got it after being "thoroughly checked out and serviced" by said dealer. My next question is this: I have 20-30 psi oil pressure at normal operating temperature. I have heard others claim more pressure, though, again, I&T says 20-30 at full throttle is normal and should not drop below 15 psi at idle, which it does not do. Any advice is really welcome here. I like this little neglected Fergie and would like to give it a better life. Thanks. O.P.
