After maybe three years and two major engine rebuilds (long story) I reached a milestone on Sunday when by holding a rubber tube in a margarine tub of gasoline and running a piece of wire from the coil to the booster cables, I started up what was originally my parts tractor.
What a sweet sound. So my '51 TEA is joining the Ranks of the Recently Resurrected - must be the time of year; a few guys on here have lately started up tractors that have not run in many years, and now, I know how good it feels to be in their company. Standing in the driveway with engine roaring (no exhaust yet), water blowing out the top of the rad right into my face (the cap wasn't on right), my wife looked over to see me grinning from ear to ear. And I must say with some pride that it started right up, showed 65 pounds on the ancient oil pressure gauge, and before too long ran without choke - and without hunting.
Thought I'd better try the hydraulics so engaged pto, raised lever, and up came the lift arms - and up they stayed. No way can I get them to drop! Checked the linkage; seems to be operating the valve, but that's as far as I have got on that. Any ideas?

Jim

Morning Jim

Does this mean that you will be joining the Perth Road Run on June 13th now? If so, should we bring ear plugs or will the exhaust be fixed by then? ( Kidding ) Congrats to you. For those who dont no Jim I had the pleasure of meeting him one Friday afternoon a couple of years back. When I went to his house there was these 2 Fergusons sitting in his driveway. both in rather poor shape. Im very happy for him that he finally got one working. Nothing finer than firing one up after a long time. Ok Jim you can stop smiling now

Good on you Jim W!! (Hope you get with your neighbours with no exhaust - they crackle a bit!)

Re your hydraulics, had a similar problem with mine - it turned out they were out of whack on the fore/aft adjustment on the quadrant setting - very sensitive to tweaks - best setting up instructions I've seen yet are on the Holland-Brand website link below.

Snoop around and there is a page of links for fixes - the hydraulics link is on there.

HTH - and have a cold one (or two) in celebration!

It's a bit of a tale but the short version is I have made three out of four, having started with one running, one in pieces that supposedly ran a year beforehand, and two parts tractors.
Now I've sold one, so once this latest is spruced up (hopefully in time for June) I'll have two that run, and a heap of parts.
(The neighbours are far enough away, and anyway by now they're used to this kind of thing.)
Jim

I’m jealous! Today I’m trying to arrange transport for my “new” '50 TEA. I want to bring it in from the field where she has sat for 2 years. My bigger challenge though is that the distributor is missing the “Cover, Dust, w/Felt” (829 936 M1). The part is not available through dealers, nor is a new or rebuilt complete distributor. In your "heap of parts", do you have a dust cover that I could buy, or borrow to make replacement from?

Hi Neil,
I have a spare distributor (that I want to hold on to) and it is missing the same piece.
An oldtimer stopped by last week and pointed out that in the centre of the cover is a bushing, which helps keep the distributor shaft from wobbling. So I would recommend tracking one down and if you find an extra please let me know!
It would be pretty easy to make one I guess. I could get you the dimensions.
But the tractor will run without it so you could at least take it for a spin. Jim
