Went out to the shed 2 weeks ago to find the battery completely dead. Put in new battery and checked for draw... Disconnected alt from system and draw went away... Used tractor with alt. disconnected for 5 hours of work with great sucess. Used trickle charger overnight, and used next day, 3 hours. I'll eventually get the alt. set up for one wire, but for now $21.00 trickle charger doing great!!!Piont system doesn't reqire lots of voltage.

This diagram, posted on the Oliver board, is very similar to what you need. The ignition hookup may vary depending on what coil you use.

Well, sorry to hear about your alternator. How do you check for draw on the battery? There have been a couple occasions I have wanted to check to see if there was a draw on my battery and just did'nt know how to do it. I have a multimeter, can I do it with that?
thanks

To check for draw the simple way. Disconnect the neg. cable from the battery. Install a 6/12v test light between the cable end and the battery terminal (multimeter optional on 20v dc). if the light comes on there is a draw, a meter will tell how much, but tractors are too simple to really care. Hope this helps. Good luck, Have fun!! To check if light or meter are working turn something on ie ignition or lights.

And if you start it on the handle, you draw even less - Ha Ha :)

Simplicity is (almost) everything.
