I'm attempting to start my 53 TEA for the first time. I engaged the starter 3 or 4 time at 30 seconds at a time the starter did'nt seem real strong but it was turning over. I tried again and nothing , I put the volt meter on the starter lug and measured 12v so that seems ok. I lightly hit the starter thinking I have a dead spot on the starter , still nothing. any ideas?????

Also I pulled the choke a few times and noticed gas coming out of carb, one guy told me that these Zenith carbs are real easy to flood, is this true??

I set the carb as follows top screw 1 1/2, bottom screw 2 full turns. New plugs ,gas filter, cleaned carb,etc...

Hi Peter,
Yes they are prone to flooding. The needle valve that is closed by the float in the carb tends to not close too well. For this reason, always shut offthe fuel at the sediment bowl, otherwise, the entire contents of your gas tank can end up in your oil pan. Jim

Had the same problem with my TO-30 starter, Turned out to be a broken nose on the starter.

Sounds like you may have a loose connection.

I had a very similar problem with my TEA as it turns out it was the timing was off 90 degrees. I had recently rebuilt my tractor and it would turn over but wouldn't start. Good luck Greg
