My airfilter is in a real mess and needs a good clean. I have removed the oil bath at the bottom and the gauze above it is clogged with muck!! can this gauze be removed? Does the rim around it knock off to release the gauze. I'd try but i dont want to damage it.

If you have access to a pars washer let it rinse in there overnight. Ask your local mechanic if he'll let you use his if you don't have one.

I take mine to work.

According to the MF manual, No.

According to the last time I took the filter off and cleaned it, also a 'No'.

Use copious amounts of paraffin (safer and cheaper than petrol) and wash the whole thing out in a bucket.

Then dispose of the contents of the bucket in an 'environmentally friendly manner'. (It does a good job of killing brambles!)

Refill with clean engine oil when the paraffin has evaporated off the gauze.

According to the manual this should be repeated every 10 hours, or twice daily in dusty conditions(!). You might as well replace the bolts with Velcro!!!!

Thanks. I'll soak it in parafin and rinse it through several times. Velcro would be a good idea them bolts aren't easy to get at!
