Casters on a bush-hog

Has anyone ever installed casters or wheels to the front of their bush-hog? I followed the debate in the archives of chains vs. position control and I think if I could put a set of wheels on the front corners of my bush-hog it can just ride on the ground and I can disengage the pump altogether while mowing.

I've done it with an old Woods RM-59 finish mower and it worked very well.

Jeff,

Where did you get the casters? How much were they?

Thanks.

I was thinking of doing the same thing with a 4 foot bush hog instead of buying a finish mower... let us know how it turns out if you attempt it. certainly would be cheaper than a finish mower, and the casters should be easy to remove if you want to use it for a bush hog. Good luck, have fun!!

Should do ok as long as you don't get into any heavy stuff.I myself like the chains because i don't have to worry about them hanging and breaking off and i think safety first.Your idea should work fine if all you are cutting is tall grass, but watch out for flying debris.I use to get smacked on the back of the calf and it was like the wife kicking me,boy did it hurt.

Speaking of which, what can I do to keep from getting whacked? I'm going to use this thing to clean off a mountain side that has various sized loose rocks and brush and small trees.
