coming from the push button starter is a wire that goes into a switch and out back up to the starter solenoid can someone tell me what that is and what it works

I assume the switch you are talking about is the neutral safety switch to keep the tractor from starting in gear. Is it on top of the bellhousing on the right side? lf so that is what it is.If I can be of further help Email me

I would say that it energizes your sol. What tractor is this on? They are kind of wired a little difference.
