Anyone out there know where I can get a Temperature gauge for my 1949 Fergie. I could get a gauge from Fleet Farm but understand the tubing would be too long and attachment may not fit. Any help would be appreciated.

If you are looking for one for function only you can find one in most any farm- tractor supply store. If you are looking for something close to original you want one with a 48" capilary tube and a gauge the reads only Ferinhight (spelling?).I bought a factory ogiginal still in the box with all of the mounting clips etc. on eBay about a year. It also has the instructions.I think I have it somewhere in my computer. If you are interested I would be happy to e-mail it to you.

I just put a temp gauge in my TO-20 and it is more trouble than it looks like it should be.

My gauge is the capillary, not electric, type. The bulb was too long to fit into the neck. Also, there are thread problems, you have pipe threads and standard machine (fine and coarse) threads plus another thread used on hydraulic lines. These look similar but are not. I did finally find an adapter that had what was needed to fit into the neck, then put another adapter into that so I could mount the bulb. This was still not an ideal solution because the bulb does not stick out into the coolant flow. I found it either stuck in too far so I could not tighten it in, or using adapters to space it out, it was too far out away from the flow.

Some people have said they found just what they needed for a direct bolt in a Walmart, but mine said they did not carry them. Others have said that they retapped the hole to accept the type of thread that came with the adapters in with their gauge.

Take the little plug that is in the neck with you when you go to look for adapters along with the gauge itself. I had to find a speciality place dealing with AC, gas lines and hydraulic fittings to get what I needed.

I would also spend some time looking for a guage that will fit....bulb sizes are different and different types of adapters come with the gauges. Some will be better than others.

so....good luck
