Cracked hydraulics cover plate

The hydraulics cover plate under the seat of a massey ferguson 35 dsl., 1957 model has cracked aparantly because of oil pressure from a blocked by-pass valve. Does this sound right? If so is the valve hard to fix and can the cover plate be welded. The cracks come in from both sides of the main cover plate and almost meet in the middle.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Graham
