1955 TO 35 Ferguson Main Drive Shaft Assembly

Cannot get the shaft assembly to pull over the main drive shaft. There is a seal behind it that is leaking and needs to be changed. I assumed after bearing and springs were remover the assembly would slide over the larger shaft. However, I cannot get it to budge. The large shaft turns freely inside the assembly but assembly will not slip off over the shaft. I saw in a earlier post where a 35 owner would remove the assembly and shaft to use as a clutch guide. They said that removing assembly and shaft was no big deal. I need some suggestions and help here. Thanks

If you are trying to remove the front pto input shaft & retainer on a 6 speed transmission the lower pto shaft has to be removed to drop the lower gear down before the retainer can be pulled out of the transmission. Some of the early models that shaft can be removed out the front the later models the transmission has to be removed from the rear housing & the shaft pulled out the back.
