There is a Ferguson 35D coming up for auction in my area. I don't know the condition yet, but I wanted some general advice on this tractor. How does it compare to the gas model, is it a good choice, are there troublespots to look for etc?

thanks....all input welcome.

In UK no one would touch a gas one and diesels are the norm. MF35 diesels are good and popular. However, check if it has 3 cylinder engine. If so, its a good tractor. If it has 4 cylinder engine, probably best to leave it alone unless you want it for show. 4 cylinder models have well known problems with cold starting. For a working tractor the 3cylinder Perkins is a sound engine. There are variants of it. One with injectors at angle in head is direct injection and has a bit higher power output than one with injectors vertical.

Forgot to say that some 4 cyliders have a "cold climate" cylinder head with heater plugs in each cylinder. They are likely to be better at starting, however, parts are still going to be easier to get for Perkins 3 cylinder.
