Without position control, how are you folks holding your brush cutters in position on your TO-20's & 30's? Also, how does the lack of live PTO effect it's operation and lastly, what size brush cutters to you recommend for the 20 or 30's?

Thanks in advance,
Bill

Used a 5 ft rotary mower on a 30 as a kid and found out real quick that I needed an adjustable top link so I could level the bush hog and I adjusted the rear wheel on the hog for heighth. Works great.

Bill, Do a search on under "bush hog" and you have a bajillion inputs on your question. That's what I did and I found a lot of things that I would have never thought of. One of the crucial factors is the weight of the mower if it is 3 point mounted. The weight affects the balance of the tractor and your 3 point hydraulics must be capable of lifting it. But do the search, read as much as you can, then can make an informed choice. hope this helps. Good luck

I have chains that go from each side of the top three point to a keyhole in my brush hog. The keyhole is a hole drill on each side of the brush hog that the chain will slide through and a slot that you slide the chin link into. After you set to the desired height you just push the hyd control all the way down and the brush hog is held by the chain. Works great. I also have made what is called a "rooster comb" it replaces the adjustabe top bar and has slots in it that you place a chain into to keep the brush hog at the desired height with the hyd down. I use a 5' brush hog on my TO30.

Position control: This is a problem but I find if you set it up so that there is good down pressure from the top link, it will help. You may also be able to adjust the arm lengths so that you can put it control in the full down position. The back wheel on the hog holds up the back and the arms need to be adjusted so they hold it level when in the down position.

But, it does work much easier on my other tractor that has position control. You can get position control on the Ferguson with a Zane Thang if you really need to solve this problem.

Size: I use a 5 foot with no problem

An overrunning clutch adapter on the pto shaft will solve the problem of the hog trying to drive the tractor. If you have the 1 1/8 PTO shaft and want to attach a 1 3/8 hog, this is probably the way to go. I think they cost around $80-100 and adapt the pto size at the same time.

By the way, a finish mower with 4 wheels really solves all the problems. You set it down and it just tracks over everything. This works very well on my Ferguson TO-20. I use a 6 foot finish mower.
