I have a tea 20, runs well, but , I have what seems to be a little oily residue on the radiator cap, also when I try to start it, say without the key on,"it starts easy with the key on,1\2 crank"I have puffs of air\water coming out the cap,, these are symptoms of a head gasket??? also, been a while since I have had to check this, a compression check will tell me whether it is head related right, thanks for all the help in the past and now, and probably in the future;pat

Pat, If it's a really bad head gasket leak, a compression check might help you confirm it. "...puffs of air/water coming out of the (radiator) cap" would be enough to convince me.

Yes symptoms are head gasket, but could be head cracked or liners sunk below top face of cylinder block, they should stand slightly proud of the block. You will only be able to see this when you remove the head and check the gasket. When rebuilding, do not use gasket cement, none is required or desired on this engine. just use a film of grease all over the gasket before fitting.

Might want to have heads pressure checked,or mangafluxed. Head gaskets are made to be put on dry, however if you feel you need to put something on them, the only product i would use is copper coat.
