I've got a '51 TO20 . I want to make a weight for rear end out of half a 55 gallon drum filled with cement. How many inches down from the top should I set the pins, and how many inches from the center should I set the bracket for the top link? I've been told it doesn't matter, but I've got a feeling it does.

Hey Mark! I've been putting on a little weight myself, around the middle -- haha. I suggest you search the archives -- I remember a discussion of this topic a couple of months back, and one posting included several photos. Godd luck!
Tex

HI Mark... I have two books on 3-point hitch specs. When mounting something heavy the higher the third point is the better for the system, They recomend 21" from bottom pins. The other book recomends 17". The bottom pins should be 26 to 27 1/2" apart. I made a setup like this and I sat the barrel on the floor and put my pins a couple of inches higher than the lowered lift arms. I first made the mistake of polking holes in the barrell and sticking a 7/8" shaft through it. Its much better to have the shaft and top link on the outside next to the barrell on a framework with arms extending into the concrete in the barrell. Its just what you need with a loader.
