My old grey fergie "died" on me.
When I say ot died, one second it was revving at about half throttle in third gear, next second---nothing at all.
There is no spark at the plugs.
There is power through the coil to the distributor when the ignition switch is on.
ie. I get a light on the tester when I check from the ignition switch to the coil. I get a light on the tester when I check the distributor side of the coil. I get a light at the LT connection to the Distributor. I get NO spark at all. How do I check the points? Are they under the cover below the rotor arm in the distibutor? How do I remove this cover to check.
Any suggestion appreciated as the fergie is stuck in the paddock where it died.

Thanks,

Brian Messenger

Just because you have voltage at the coil and distributor, doesn't mean your getting the high voltage for the spark, and your coil is good, after checking the points etc, and you still don't have a spark, try a different coil.

What model of Fergie?
-and, my initial reaction is that it sounds typical of either a condenser or rotor failure.
-and if it is the type of distributor I am imagining yes the points (and condenser) are under that plate. Lift off the rotor, and
the plate should pop off easily as it is only being held in place by gravity. You may have to use a thin screwdriver or something but don't apply much force as it is fairly easy to bend.
