I was able to do some serious bush hogging back in Iowa on my old Fergie. A friend on the farm said the hydraulic oil looked milky. He put regular light duty oil in but I changed it to the 90 weight(6 gallons) for Ford tractors. It worked fine for 2 hours then lost its full lifting strength. After giving it a rest over night it worked fine the next day but I mowed for only an hour. Do I have a pump problem?

Sounds as though your pump could be getting tired having that milky emulsion in it wont have done it much good, try a pressure gauge on the system. You will have to hold the lower links part way down so it wont shut off when they get to the top. pressure should be 2200psi but anything near will be ok usually.Again it could be a leak internally that is now showing up. It needs further investigation.

The hyd oil in mine goes milky from rainwater going down the shifter. I keep it indoors now.
