I have just purchased a TEA 2085, the wiring was so bad that I have taken every wire off the tractor and am replacing it with 10 gauge automotive wire (I hope this is correct). My question is I think I have an alternator? There was only one wire coming back to the starter solinoid and there was one wire that comes out and back into the alternator. It say Delco on the outside. Does this sound like an alternator and if so can I just hook it back to the starter solinod. Thanks.

Delco is not original; it was Lucas.
It might be an alternator but more of a description would help. If it is long and narrow it is more likely a generator; if it is short and wide it is more likely an alternator.
Some alternators have regulators built in; these are known as one-wire alternators. If this is what you have, then the wiring approach you describe should work.
Check and see if there are any other terminals on the generator/alternator. If there really is only one, chances are it's an alternator and your wiring job will be simpler.

Jim W

Would you mind if I gave you a call if I can't get the tractor running? I am a newbie on this stuff. Thanks.
