I'm converting my TO-20 to 12V. I think I have everything I need except for an adapter for mounting the new alternator. Is there anyone who sells the adapter W/O buying everything else?

John, Can you give me the length of each piece on the mounting bracket, top, bottom and outside and also the size stock. I don't have the equip. to make one. I' going to have a machine shop make one for me, from the pic. Thanks Again, Dave

Thanks for the pic John. I didn't know what it looked like. At least I know what I'm looking for now. You'd think as many people converting, someone would have them on the market commercially.

Dave,

Don't know where you are in Missouri, but I have a TO30 with a 12V conversion and you can come by and look at it if you're anywhere near Washington, Missouri, about 45 miles west of St. Louis. Otherwise, I can take pictures...

Dave, do you mean mounting bracket when you say adaptor?

If so, there was someone who posted on this board recently who had a design available - so it may be worth looking back through the archives.

I've never seen a commercially available bracket, most people make their own up.

The belt on the tracor is wider than the alternator. Did you find a pulley?

Converted my 30 to GM alternator. I used old belt with thinner pulley on alt. You must make sure the three pulleys line up or you'll throw off the belt. It won't charge at start up til you get over approx 1200 rpm. It starts in the winter now!

The owner of a small tractor auto parts store in this area can get them. They are an expensive high quality machined pulley. $16 I will ask him where he gets them.

I am doing this conversion too and just ordered a 2.5" diameter pulley for a 3/4" belt from a local alternator shop, which should be in tomorrow or Monday. It is $22 Cdn, but he says it is not very high quality. There is also some special nut involved; I will report back once they have arrived.

PS He also says the belt will have a tough time going around that tight a bend so I should convert to the newer cogged type.

Larry in Mo: I live 150 miles south of Stl.
James UK: Yes, Mounting Bracket. I'll ck archives.
Herb: Don't know if orig belt (wide) will work in the narrow pulley of GM Alt., or will need new pulley.
Jim: Let me know on pulley.
Rusty: No Pulley yet. Value Bilt said they don't carry the mounting bracket. Let me know on pulley.

I picked up the pulley today; it is quite good quality after all. The guy said when he ordered them in the past, they weren't as good as this. I am actually quite impressed; it appears to be machined rather than cast. It was $20.28 Cdn. The pulley is thicker than usual (of course) which leaves just a few threads sticking out on the shaft. To deal with this there is a recess in the pulley, so that the special nut has more threads to grab on to. Special nut = $6.28 I think. About $30 Cdn total after taxes.
Very happy with the result, but it will be some time before this alternator is put to use so can't tell you how it performs electrically - I'm sure it will be great though.
Now I have to find the right belt.

Sounds great Jim. Where did you order the pulley from? I'm going to have to start bushhogging pretty soon, prob. within 2 weeks, so I need to get my tractor going soon. Dave

I got it from a place in Ottawa, Ontario, called Ascot Alternators. I don't have their number here but if you search on Google you can find it.
Don't know if the border crossing guys nick you they way they do us with goods coming this direction; if so, it might be cheaper for you to get it in the States.
If you do call these Ascot guys, mention that I just got one and they'll remember what this is about - it's only about a 4-man shop and I was there just on Friday.

Came across the receipt and here are the part numbers:
pulley: 43570
special nut: 44100
