Check there's oil in back end. If it hasn't got "live" hydraulics PTO lever will need to be in gear for the hydraulics to operate. T20s are non-live and won't lift unless PTO is engaged and clutch is up. Some 35s are also non-live.

I know these are really basic points but they may be relevant if the tractor is brand new to you and won't work. They are probably not very helpful if you already know the tractor and have checked these things. In that case you may have to look inside. You can take one of the side covers off to get a look inside(either dipstick one or PTO lever on) but tractor will need to be on a bank to run oil to the other side or else it will spill out when you take the cover off. Top cover does not come off until you take off side cover(s) and detach control fork from pump. It can damage the mechanism if you try to take it off with the fork attached. There might not be much to see as pump will be below the oil level. Pump repair entails draining oil, detaching control spring and removing top cover then pump itself. (Some come out from below in which case top cover can stay in place.) If pump is working, mechanical fracture of the lift rod mechanism is a possibility and you may be able to check that all parts are intact by removing the side cover.

Mike, You should give more details like if it ran normally before, oil levels, how it stopped working and the more info the better we can help you. Is it warm where you are? You get the drift.

Good Luck

Norm
