Hello Fellow Fergie-files!

I currently have a Fergie TO-20, but I have an opportunity to pick up a great-running 35 Special. Any info that anyone would be willing to post about the 35 Special, I'd like to read!

Some questions:

Are parts hard to find?
Value of tractor (1957 model)
Original color? (this one's been painted industrial yellow)
Any quirks?

Anything else you wish to add. Thanks!

A 35 special probably has not a dual clutch system for live PTO. Just a thought. Does serial number with letters SGF? or SGM.
SGM indicates a dual clutch.

Hope it helps

Norm: Nope....doesn't have a dual clutch/live PTO (sure wish it did). I wonder if a dual can clutch could be added?

I'm wondering: Are the 35 Specials just a TO-35 with the addition of a hi-lo tranny? I was thinking maybe most To-35 parts would fit 'er? (or MF 35?)

James: She's not an industrial model- someone just painted her that yellow. The sheet metal was originally cream colored.

Thanks guys!

The sheet metal on a '57 should be Beige, The castings should be Flint Gray.

Depending on the serial #, the 1957 TO-35 was also painted red & gray according to a chart I found on the net. I can't remember at which serial number the change occurred, but I think I can find the chart if anyone's interested.

If yellow was its original colour then you have found yourself a genuine 100% 35 Industrial model. The 35 model here in the UK was red bonnet (hood?), and Stoneleigh grey engine and transmission.

Engine spares aren't a big deal, but I believe road speed is slightly slower than its agricultural brother as the gearbox and back end have been beefed up. Getting gearbox spares may (I don't know for sure) therefore be more of a challenge.

It has no vices that I know of. If I found one (they're rarish beasts), if it ran and the price was good, I'd buy it. Because of its rarity, expect to pay a bit more than usual - over here a standard model 35 that runs, looks rough, and breathes from its engine will still fetch nearly 2000 dollars.

Good luck
