I am very new to the mechanical life, but I am learning fast with my tea 20! I have a very simple question re the gear box (transmission). My original manual that I have on tea20's says that there is a a dipstick accessed from on top of the gearbox and next to the gear lever. On opening the cover indicated I am looking straight in to the gearbox , but no dip stick. On the right hand side of the transmission underneath the height control lever for the hydraulics is a dip stick. I assumed that this was the one for the transmission oil etc.. It isn't mentioned anywhere in the manual. Is this a one off or is it the correct dipstick?

And as an aside when looking at into the gearbox, should the gears be semi submersed in oil or should there just be a pool at the bottom of the housing.

Thanks v. much in anticipation

Use the dipstick on the side cover to measure fluid level in both transmission and rear end it is a common resevoir. The gears would be semi submerged when you look in the filler plug hole.
I have the big TEA 20 shop manual it covers all TE series 460 pages for 48.00 US also have a parts book from 1951 for 25.00 US both are photocopies.

Thanks Rod, that clarified it for me. Would love the manuals but our exchange rate pretty much rules it out for me
