I have a TO20 that was previously converted to 12 volt. It has a Delco alternator which has had all but one of the leads plugged off. The battery wasn't charging, but seems to hold a charge when I hook it up to my recharger. I had recently increased the tension on the fan belt and had also replaced the wire running from the alternator to the voltage regulator with a heavier gauge. It would run fine once I jump-started it, but recently, would stall as soon as I disconnected the jumper cables. I am now about to replace the alternator. I want to make sure I have everything hooked up right.

You really need to check a print. The one that F. Light talked about it is a good one. It's the one I did on my TO20. If you have any questions just ask.

I'll definitely check the articles.
It's interesting that you mentioned the one wire conversion. I took the old alternator to the auto parts store and he had a hard time getting a reading off of the one terminal in use. It was a threaded connection on the back of the alternator. When he removed the plug, he exposed two spade contacts. He hooked up to those and got plenty of juice. Maybe I should use them. If so, would I need to get some kind of wiring harness?

You will need to us both of the little clips and the lug on the back of the alt. Go and check out the print and it will show you what needs to be done. I made my own wiring harness, save lots of $$.
