try to figure out what voltage my recently acquirred to 30 is...it has a negative ground..past owner told me it was a 6 volt system..but i'm not sure..it had no battery and the tractor has been sitting for over ten years...is there a sure way to determine which voltage it is...it has a gas engine...no lights...

Well to start if it has a old generator it is 6V then if it has a alternator it is 12V. Also you can check to see if it has a voltage regulator, 6V uses one 12V does not. Hope this helps.

The original 6v system was positive ground. A conversion to 12v would be neg. ground. It's possible that the generator could have been reworked to 12v and then a 12v regulator installed, but most likely as John said it could be an alternator up there.
