Just removed PTO shaft to replace seal(thanks for the info.Ray) Drained all 3 areas as advised, was pleased that no foreign objects were seen and no water was present. Is the M1103 mineral oil the only lub. that can be used to refill? To fill am I to remove cap at shifter housing only or is there another fill port? What is total amount of oil needed? Any other thing I should be aware of before closing everything. One more question---should there be a flat gasket between pto housing and rear end or some type of sealer? Again thanks Dave

Dave I talked to some dealers and they all recommended the straight mineral oil as opposed to 85 or 90w gear lube. Story I heard was the GL would caused check valve to stick in hyd. system. I know some run the GL with no problem. Hyd. system calls for 6 gallons per operators manual. What ser. # is yours? Mine is 69062. Wes

Don't see a gasket in the pictures from the I&T manual. Was there one it it when you took it down? Seems like a thin one would do the job. You could get some material and cut your own. Good luck, Wes

Wes, My serial # is 116119. No, there was not a flat gasket when i removed the shaft, can't imagine the casting being machined well enough not to need one but there was no leakage. Still might make one for peace of mind. Is there another part # for the oil other than M1103 was wondering if the oil can be bought some place other than a Massey dealer. Thanks Dave

I use Chevron "RPM" oil out here in the west. Any major producer will have straight min. under a specific trade name. I think I would gasket that pto. Makes a big mess when you have to get back in there.

Use a sheet of thin gasket material or file folder and make a gasket for this while it's apart it'll be just as good as the original and much cheaper if you're handy this way. I've seen "gasketmaker" in a tube used also, just allow it to dry throughly before installing the oil. The filler cap you saw is the only one for the common oil resevior.
