As far as the motor being stuck, if it is a diesel, it is most certainly stuck from having a cracked head and water/antifreeze leaking into one or more cylinders. Good heads are impossible to find and I have never seen a "repaired" one that didn't leak.

Just priced sleeves, pistons, bearings, and gaskets for one I was going to buy. Adding hoses and incidentals I came up with 3000.00. That's not including head work. Better buy it real cheap!

Hi, I own a 600D, serial no. 1828. There were only about 1500 of these made total. They were built in 1956 only and were rated at 67 horsepower at the PTO. They elvolved from the W-9 and Super W-9, and the 650 came after them, so there are parts that will work for all of those, like your wheel rim, but there are differences too. Some parts are easy to come by, while others are near impossible to get (like the verticle stainless trim in the middle of the grill).
Diesels were most common, but gas and LP gas could be had too. Some were equiped with a hand clutch (like some MM"s!), power steering, single or double hydraulics, PTO, belt pulley, etc.
Their value increases because of their rarity, but decreases because of their size, and in your case, the potential expense of a tight motor. The value when restored is never as much as you may have in it, like any other old tractor. A good original in running condition might be $2500 to $4000. Restored, who knows?
It was the biggest wheel tractor made by IH in "56 and I love mine, but it isn"t a "handy" tractor. The engine produces over 500 ft/lbs of torque with 350 c.i.d. so it is great fun to work it and feel the power! Post back if you want me to rattle on more about it.
Paul

How do you figure out Ft Lbs of torque with a tractor?

That torque figure was one that I read in some original factory literature. I"m not sure how one would determine the torque of an engine without the test equipment that is used for that.

I just thought that was a neat measurement, seeing how i've never heard of them measured like that before.

DT. The 600's were purduce in 56&57. Looks like yours is a 57. The diesel had a bore of 4 1/2 and a stroke of 5 1/2. = 350 c.i. Weight 6,500# (shipping weight) Around 54hp at drawber and 62 on the belt pully. Hope this helps. Morgan

I don"t mean to be contrary, but they were only made in "56. The 650 was out by late "56. They were rated at 67 hp at the belt.

Okay- I"ll stand corrected.
It does seem odd that IH would build the 600 and 650 at the same time when the only differences that I know of were cosmetic. It seems like once they started with 650 production, there would have been no reason to build 600s. Oh well, reasoning doesn"t always apply to what companies do!
