I am replacing the seals and gaskets on my 1949 cub. I cannot figure out how to get the pressure regulator valve out of the block. The cone ended piece came out easily but the part with the ball it it is not coming out. This part has slots in the end and you can see the ball in the center. What type of tool would I use for this?

I wound up making a tool to fit. I had a peice of flat steel just about the right size and ground the tip to fit the slot and ground the middle to miss the ball and used a cresent wrench to turn it. it was really tight so it took some pressure to break it loose.

I just rebuilt my Cub hydraulic unit and had the same problem until I bought an internal pliers. These pliers open out when you squeeze them. I bought the pliers at an auto parts store. The main problem I had was trying to determine if all the parts were there. Someone had taken mine apart at some point and didn't assemble all the pieces. I ended up having to buy some of the missing parts from Case/IH. A manual is a must for a hydraulic unit rebuild I think. Roger

I replaced the whole assy in my "49, not long ago. There are three pieces the plug, spring and the valve there should not be a ball and the valve does not have slots. You might try a pickup magnet for the removal.
