Since we are all telling off on ourselves. Back when I was about 14 or 15 I guess, we lived on a farm just outside Fort Worth Texas. Daddy worked full time and this was more of write off than a working farm. We kept come cattle, planted a big garden etc etc. Never made any money off of it but we sure ate well. Anyway, one time my folks were out of town for some reason and my aunt was staying with us, my self and my 3 much younger brothers. Daddy had left the blade on the IH Farmall tractor and I decided it would be a good idea to grade the driveway for him while he was gone. ( Where do we come up with these ideas? ) Of course the battery was dead so I decided that I would just pull start it with the station wagon. Got car moved into place, got the chain on ok, and turned on the tractor switch, set the throttle to low idle, since I had helped Daddy go this many times before. Got back in the car and pulled forward a bit,, (don't get ahead of me here!! ) Of course the tractor fired right up and, JEEZE is headed right for the car with no one driving!! I slammed on the brakes, jumped out, ran around the tractor which has missed the car and was headed out across the field, with chain still attached and jumped up on the draw bar and into the seat and threw in the clutch!! JUST before it reached the end of the chain. WHEW!!! I got real careful after that and a few years later talked Daddy into changing that tractor over to 12 volt. How did we all survive being kids?
