Stay Off the Ice | This happened about 20yrs.ago.I lived with my parents and two brothers on a farm in west virginia. It was a rental property and there was an old ford 501 tractor that my brothers used to feed the cows on the property with.My dad told me to stay off of it because it wasn't ours, only my brothers could use it to feed the cows.Anyway, one morning I got up and was very bored so I decided to go for a spin on the old girl.My parents had gone to the grocery store and would be gone for awhile so I thought.I saw my brother down by the pond and thought I'd give him a little scare.I was going to skid up behind him and that would do it.I forgot to mention it was winter at that time.Well anyway I misjudged and ended up out on the pond. The ice didn't break,I couldn't believe it.Then I thought I better get off there so I gave her a little gas and it was all over. The treads on the back tires are quite large as you all know and they caused the tractor to bounce up and down when I gave the juice and there she went right through the ice.Luckily the pond wasn't real deep, about halfway up the tractor. There was another tractor on the farm we could use to pull this one out,to bad the owner came and took it earlier that day, bummer. We thought about lassoin'a cow and whip it til it pulled it out,but we couldn't find any rope.At this point it didn't matter anywho,my mom and dad pulled in the drive right then and I thought I better tell'm what happened.Well,my dad wasn't too mad,he only slugged me once and my brothers hated me cause they had to help dig it out and it was probably about 2 degrees outside.Guess I got up on the wrong side of the pond that day.Oh well, live and learn.
