I need help. My father has a Forson (1962???) backhoe loader and one day it quit. He said he thought it was the injector pump as the lift pump was working. We removed it and it does not turn very smoothly. Is this bad? Is it worth fixing? (the tractor is rough) Who can fix it or test it? How much should it cost? Can I get a replacement or used one? How much?

Thanks anyone

Can you tell me how to set the timing on the injector pump on a 1964 Fordson.

Rich,
I went thru the same sort of problem late last summer. Never did scare up a good used one even in Canada and beyond. Did find one rebuilt exchang unit about $799. and otherwise quotes to rebuild mine were $1200 to over $2000. Some way Tom Bitner got wind of my needs and emailed me. He did a great job of rebuilding my pump which had been contaminated with water for a total of $500 including 2nd return shipping and 1 year warranty. You can find out more on his page <>Link

This is a very simple injection pump. Most likely the lifters for the injectors are rusted stuck. Remove injector lines and fuel line to pump. Remove injection pump assembly. Make sure to mark alignment to coupler and to not turn engine over. Remove side cover of pump. Remove end cap for bearing of cam. May need to soak in some good penetraiting oil. GOOD, NOT WD-40. Remove front bearing holder and remove cam. Remove each lifter. Disassemble each lifter, roller and cam. I suggest glass beading these parts. Do not touch the injection pistons themselves. They most likely are OK. Coat cam and lifters with good grease and reassemble.
