Hey man I am finally going to go to GA and get my ford super dexta! It isn't running, I have ordered some books, but I know I will need your help. Can I have your e-mail address &/or phone #? After replacing the battery with the NAPA one you posted somewhere I don't even know where to go from there as I troubleshoot to get it to run. Is there a way to check compression on the Perkins? I don't even know what knobs to pull, push, or turn as I start it. Where are the starting instructions?...:) Thanks.

Yessir you can contact me by email is ok. If we use email I can check it from whichever place I might be.

I don't mind a phone call but I am seldom near the phone and I won't carry my cell cause these yuppies want me to do too much when I've got it with me.

Just be sure to check the oil and water 1st, and top off with fresh if it's low of either one.

I would drain the old fuel if it's been sitting along time. Put in fresh fuel and prime it off. When you prime it back up loosen the front bleeder plug on the side of the injector pump and pump the hand primer til you have a steady stream of fuel without air bubbles and tighten the bleeder back down.

Put the battery in with the positive post to ground, and neg post to the selonoid.

When you're sitting in the seat you'll see a lever just ahead of your right leg that goes up to the starter.

Turn the ignition on and push the lever down til the starter engages. The lever also puts the electric to the starter so don't worry about a starter button, all the works are on the lever.

If you have to boost with your pickup it is negative ground. Don't worry about that just hook the cables from neg to neg and pos to pos between the vehicles. The pos ground does'nt make any difference for boosting it's still pos to pos and neg to neg.

When you hit the starter be sure to hold the clutch all the way down, it makes the engine turn better.

If you want to check the compression you'll have to take the injectors out and take a reading from the injector hole. It should be at least 100 psi and steady on all three cylinders.

The gear shifts are:

Right shifter is high low range. Forward is low, back is high.

Left shift is 3 forward and reverse.

To the left and back is reverse, forward is 3rd.

To the right is forwards low, back is 2nd.

I can't think of anything else right now but if I'm not clear or missed something just holler.

DO NOT use ether or a gas rag. The fumes will crack the pistons on the Perkins.

If it won't spin fast enough with the starter to crank get someone to pull you and start it the 1st time.

ok, thanks a lot. I will try soon. The battery connection thing is very strange to me. I am certainly glad you mentioned that! Is the injector's threaded penetration the same as one of our 2 different size spark plugs or will I need to adapt my compression tester? Also, is some of this tractor metric? Thanks, steve

Be careful and remember NO ETHER.

You'll have to use one of the rubber tipped comp gages and hold it down tight in the injector hole.

The injector is held in by a stud on each side of it. Take off the 2 hold down nuts and use a small crowfoot bar to pull them out.

You might want to pick up some new washers for the injector fuel return lines, most times they're rotten and won't reseal.

If you pull out all the injectors at once be sure to mark them and put each one back into the original hole.

There's a copper or brass compression washer at the bottom of the inj hole be sure you get them out and clean the hole real good before you put the injector back in. I always use new washers in it. I always put grease or Never Seize on the injector before I put it back in.

Everything is SAE and no metrics on the Super Dexta.

If you think of anything else you need to know just email if you like.
