Ok so I found out that the head, not the block is cracked. This is a 1961 Fordson Super Major. What years are the heads interchangable?
And how much does it cost? Anyone know of a parts house (in USA) with one of these parted out? Also I am still looking for the auxiliary shaft for the injection pump. Thankyou

I just did a head exchange, replacing a DDN head with a FL. It seems to be working fine.

I've gotten Super Major parts from Wengers in Myerstown PA and was satisfied with them.

Good luck

John

Todd,
You can fit a head from most of the Major range from 1958 to 1964. The later heads will be marked "FL" and have improved air flow but I have always found that the heavier valve springs on the later heads increase cam shaft and tappet/pushrod wear.
Your aux drive shaft can again come from any engine up to the fitting of the Minimec pump.

Brian

Todd

The part number for the shaft is/was:

E1ADKN 66607B replaced by E69CP9 replaced by
E96CP9.

The sahft for use with the Minimec punp is part no E92CP9 and this shaft cannot be used with the "A" type pump as it is longer and the key way is offset 10 degrees.

See my post below re the "FL" head.

Brian, I think those heavier valve springs were introduced because in the truck apllication they had a habit of droping valves at high revs (2500rpm)

And when I reread my post I thought I must have been drunk (I wasn't). Soory about the typo's.

Am I correct in assuming that the 1961 is not a Minimec? Does the presence of vacume lines indicate that it is the Simms?

Yup and Yup.
(both pumps are Simms. Fordsons were fitted with no other make. One was vaccum governed with pipes to the inlet manifold, one was mechanically governed therefore no pipes to manifold).
