I am going to look at a fordson tractor with a loader and backhoe. I do not know anything about fordsons. So I don"t know what model this is. Any help to determine the model is appreciated.

This tractor has a working loader and backhoe, tires are good; however, the diesel motor does not run smoothly and blows smoke. This is what the owner is telling me. I have yet to see it. He describes the running of the motor as a miss or something similar. Of course blowing blue smoke means a rebuild.

Any comments?

Thanks in advance

Try checking the injector pump timing for the smoking and bad running. It sounds like the timing is slow or retarded. Timing that tractor is simple. Check your manual.

Well you could do what I did. I bought a 1961 fordson power major w/factory loader and a Wain Roy backhoe. It needs either to start and smokes alot. I bought it to dig the foundation for an addition that I was building. Shortly after I had to dig up my well line which is 5'-6' down and boy can that thing dig. But It has paid for itself. I knew it would need an engine rebuild when I bought it, but I'm still using it. I do want to rebuild it before I break the crank using either.
The backhoe is very rugged, to the point that you need weight in the bucket to move it around. The cool thing is that I can remove it from the tractor in 10 min, two 3/4" fine thread nuts and two quick disconnect hose couplers and it's off. I love the thing even though it is old and well worn.
I have a picture of it in the archives here, do a search for "Fordson Powermaster With Wain Roy backhoe" by Jim K

Just curious, what did you pay for it? I would like to know if the price is right on this tractor.

Get the serial number off of the engine (right/front side) It will help determine the age. Also, take some pictures and post them here. There are plenty of people on this site that can give some excellent advice.
Good luck
