Just bought a '62 Dexta with the 3 cyl Diesel. Got it started with Ether and it only runs on full throttle. Without Ether it won't start. Need some suggestions n what to do with it.

Well, I can say for sure that way too much either was used. I will follow the Injector diagnostic to prove the pump good or bad. I"d much rather rebuild the Engine than the Injection pump. As for the Goat Skin Diaphram; this is only about a year old and was in great shape when I inspected it.

From what I understand if the diaphram were bad, I would have full throttle without regard to the lever position as vacuum would have no effect on the injection pump.

Pull the injectors out of the head. You then reattach them to the lines with them hanging in the open. Go through the bleeding procedure and observe whether they spray. If they don't, your problem is in the pump. If they do, check the compression. The old Dextas were notorious for slightly bending the connecting rods when too much ether was used. Operate the engine with the exhaust manifold off. You can quickly isolate the problem cylinders. Tou can also tell if each is getting fuel.

The injection pump has a flexible diaphram that operates the governer , these rot over time. Take the line loose going from the tank to the transfer pump and make sure there is a stream of diesel flowing out. Change the fuel filter.
