Took the cover off where the belt pulley would go.
The angle gear that would drive the pulley is free on the shaft, it fell forward, keeping the couplers from enguaging. This is a single clutch model, so there should be a nut and washer keeping the gear in place, NUT AND WASHER ARE GONE! not on the shaft! What the heck, where did they go?
Is there any reason that gear needs to be in there? can i just split the tractor and take it out , (i dont care about the belt pulley), or does the gear, nut, washer need to be there to "pack" the shaft?

When i split the tractor to get the gear out ill fish around in there with a magnet.
But i do get the feeling that the nut was removed by human hands since there is a hose clamp around the shaft that was there to keep the gear from moving, but it didnt hold.
I assume the nut came lose and the threads were ruined so they cut the nut off and put the hose clamp on.
Just a guess.

the manual does not indacate that the belt pulley drive gear is required for spacing.
the major question is were is the nut??
the low range shift coupling has to come off the shaft for the nut to come off.and there is a pilot bearing in that end of the input shaft.
I don't use the belt pulley on my backhoe tractor but Ido have one on the farm tractor.
Ialso have a "V" pulley drive assembly that mounts in the belt pulley drive to run a hydraulic pump.
