I've got a '98 Cherokee with 4.0 engine that has had a slight knock at idle since it was brand new. The knock is erratic and I haven't been too concerned about it since it has never gotten worse. Once the RPM's turn up to over 1000 or so the knock either goes away or is masked by the increased engine noise. This engine has always had less oil pressure than I would like, but it is within Jeep specs. I'm not going to spend much time worrying about it unless it becomes more severe. FYI, my brother had an engine in an old Ford pickup that knocked for over 200,000 miles. We never did find out what caused it, but the last I heard the engine was still running. Tim
