We have some darned good folks at the local branch office!

Went in Tuesday morning to transfer a title and get plates and tabs and was walking out the door in under 5 minutes!

Don't worry, the powers that be will find that office to be too efficient and close it down to save money.

We have a local tax office that is always busy, but the girls have been there a long time and are quick. No doubt they will get transfered to another office soon and be replaced with 2 newbies in training, training each other!

On another note, we have 2 locations within a 20 mile drive to renew your drivers license. I would do it by mail or online, but since I have a CDL I had to go in. So I go to the one to the west since I had another stop near there. Guess what, the line was clear out the door. Looked like an hour or more wait so I went on and made my other stop. After returning home, I decided to go try the other office since I had the spare time. Walked in, filled out the paperwork, got my picture taken, handed them a check for $61 and was out the door in less than 5 minutes. Mentioned my earlier visit to the other office to the girl, she informed me that office just got some new people. Go figure.

I have noticed a definite uptick in customer service at most guvment offices- Secretary of State's office for a corporate filing the other day, and they were falling all over themselves to be accomodating. I'm surprised I didn't get a cookie and a hug when I left.

There's a lot of budget pressure these days, and I think employees are becoming aware that the days of the cushy, secure job are a thing of the past. When boss has to cut jobs, its going to be the ones with the most customer complaints.

Yup, I actually got a heads-up call from building inspector telling me that his boss had asked him to come by and do a "progress inspection" to make sure that there weren't any erosion/drainage problems with all the rain we've had. I have no concerns, but it's nice to get that kind of heads up.

downsouth,
It's hit and miss here in Michigan at the Secretary of State's office. I think they've consolidated a lot of offices. Most are pretty efficient even when there's a bunch of people since they've seemed to staff up the remaining offices. The one I hate is near work in Dearborn, MI. The lines are usually long and the local immigrant population never have the right paperwork, love to argue with the agents, try and cut in front of everyone else. I saw one guy going through the trash to find paper numbers to reuse. Someone told me they saw the same thing and saw a guy argue that he was passed over. I think the office got wise to that real quick. A co-worker was there when a guy was repeatedly warned to not try and cheat (copy from person next to him) on a driver's test. They finally asked him to leave. I love the mail renewals via online for plates and even DL's.

Only one license office in our town of 6500 + another 5000 or so in the surrounding country side.
only one young girl behind the counter, and she's slower than sh!t trough a funnel.
Wait time is worse than at the hospital walk in.
I have to drive 60 ml to the next town to get it done in under an hour if i'm lucky.
Cause i'm farm i can't just mail it in either.

I got a new drivers license in Mar. Checked my watch going in so I could have the goods on them. Filled out form, eye exam, (failed) photo taken, heat shrink hard card license and out the door in 11 minutes.

The SC DOT offices used to have terrible wait times and the occasional psychotic employee. The last governor(the one with the Argentina girlfriend) had a heart to heart talk with the DOT and they did a little simple reorganizing in the offices and wait times are much better. Hope the new governor dosen't let them backslide.

The best thing they did was to put an employee at the door to see if your paperwork was in order. If so, you are given a number and wait to be called, if not you leave and make corrections. Works much better and couldn't have cost anything and probably saved money.
