Do any of you guys with a 4.7 dodge/chrysler engine have a problem with the lifters? I've got an 04 Durango that is going on its second set of lifters with 111000 on the clock. When we had em replaced last time they said it might be some curing problem from the factory but 2 times within 30000 miles? Sounds like bad manufacturing to me. Don't get me wrong I've got nothing against chrysler I like their vehicles but who ever they gets their parts from needs to wake up. I can tell it's the lifters to because it's early enough in breaking that it goes away when warm. Sorry had to vent a little but have any of you ever had this problem?

I had that problem with em too, never did replace them though, made lots of noise, went and traded it in on a ford and never looked back! I did put some CD2 in it to quiet it up and it worked for a bit, almost like it was starving for oil on one lifter...Bob

Yup, I've had 3 of them and they all started making noise around 70-80K. I usually traded the vehicle off at 160 or 170. Just kept some Lucas in it along with the regular oil. Never had a problem other than the noise.

I had a 67 Chyrsler 440 that I had to replace the lifters on. Of all the beaters I bought & run, that is the only one with bad lifters & it only had 22000 miles on when I got it.

Have a str. 6 by the same company that has a noisy lifter. Generally all the lifters are louder than they should be. I always add STP at oil change, it helps keep the noise down. So far so good. Never have had them replaced.

A typical Chrysler problem! Recently, "Four
Wheel Drive and Offroad" magazine reported that
Chrysler was having so many warrenty problems,
and claims onder the "Lemon Laws" for one of
their 4 cylinder engines that they were going
to quit making it...and were going to purchase
engines from HUNDAI !

Use a HD diesel oil formulated for pre 2007 diesels. Gasoline oil and emission diesel oil doesn't have the extreme wear additives to protect the lifter/cam.
A larger oil filter operates with less oil passing through the internal relief valve. Thus less or no un-filtered passing through the engine.
Here is a Wix with much more filter area and finer filter media.
Wix 51515R . It's 5.2 inches long instead of the little muffin sized twerp the parts book calls for.
