Versatile 935

Were the 935 tractors as good as the 800 series? Back in the 80's we had a 850 then a 875 that were sure dependable tractors. I was looking at a 935 for pulling a 16 row strip-till rig this fall, but I've not heard good things about the V8 engine. Anyone had any good or bad experiences with them?

When I worked for the New Holland dealer in my area, we had several V8 versatiles in our area. Only worked on one 950 with the 903 Cummins, and all it was was a cracked fuel line and air conditioning recharge. The big thing is not to lug them down or work them at full power all the time. If you have gentler operators, the V8's last fairly well. Otherwise, go with the 855 Cummins.

The 903 Cummins was a good engine and were very popular in 4 wheel drive tractors. I've heard parts can be expensive and they'll slobber if they aren't worked or idled for too long but overall very good engines if they were looked after.

I was told today by a mechanic friend of mine, that Cummins is doing away with all parts, and info for 88'and older motors. Any parts will have to be aftermarket after the stock is gone. Our Trojan loader at work has an 855 in it and we just ended up with 6 of the last 12 liners in the country... Not good for the guys still running the old horses.

Sounds fishy to me. I would hope Cummins would be a little smarter than trying that. There are millions of 88' and older Cummins engines still running. I know of a ton of 350 and 400 Cummins still working for a living in my area. Not to mention tractors and industrial equipment. I'm not a huge Cummins fan anyway, but that would kill it completely for me.

And that came from our local Cummins dealer, Northern Illinois Cummins, and yes we have tons of older Cummins engines in trucks and equipment in our area too.... Not to mention quite a few Versatiles and Masseys with Cummins motors.

Wow. Maybe Cummins doesn't care about the parts revenue for those older engines. I guess there really isn't a worry about parts availability later on; some aftermarket manufacturer will step in. I'm not gonna worry much, I favor Cat and Detroit anyway. (no offense to anybody intended.)
