i found my self a cockshut 560 tractor with a loader but the problem with the machine according to the owner is that the there is diesel fule getting into the oil and the owner thinks that it is the injector pump as the source of the issue. i want to take the injector off and wondeing how to tell on these engines when i have the the numebr one piston at top dead center as not ot screw up the timing of the engine - any experts advice greatly appreciated?

On any diesel that problem can be one of a few things. Injector pump problems, fuel pump problems if is has one. Return line problems any one or all of them can cause problems

when the rocker arms on # 6 cyl. are on the rock. when the timing marks are lined up as per spec's when you have compression blowing out of #1 cyl. when disassembling i never worry about where any marks are, because pump most likley will be rotated anyhow.its when you are ready to assemble you get things lined up. you need a manual.

The BEST advice anyone could give you is to acquire a shop manual for the tractor BEFORE tying to injure (repair) it!

Pull the key and put it in your pocket. Scribe a line across the base of the pump and the mounting boss.

Yank the lines and linkage and pull the pump back to get at those seals.

That pump will only go back on there one way, so if ya don't spin the engine, it will be right back in time as when ya yanked 'er off.

Does it have a manual fuel pump? Our 4020 john deere did that and the AC fuel pump was leaking into the crankcase.

You won't have a problem unless you crank the engine over or turn the injector pump after you remove it. There is always some diesel that gets past the piston rings and I believe an oring that seals the pump from the engine block. I had a buddy who installeda shut of valve to prevent fuel from leaking into the crankcase, while the tractor sat.

any good sources of manuals for cockshut tractors? either in print or ive seen some folks now adays are kind enough to post entirem manuals online on their onw websites?
